Viimeinen - The last one

Eilinen oli pitkä päivä, mutta löytyi se aurinkokin (lumen ja loskan saattelemana). Pikikin oli illalla oma pirteä ja hellyyden kipeä itsensä. Vuosi sitten kumpikaan ei reagoinut mitenkään rokotukseen, kaksi vuotta sitten kumpikin oli nuupahtanut vuorokauden verran.

Mamma on oma lukunsa. Sanotaanko näin, että tasaisesti pikkuhiljaa alaspäin.

Päivän piristys oli Secret Palin viimeinen paketti! Ihanaa farkun sinistä Rowania (voi että rakastan Rowanin lankoja!), villalankaa Natural Dye Studiolta, suklaata (jota ei enää ole ;), taas uusi ja mielenkiintoinen lehti (pitää tulevaisuudessakin kysyä kansainvälisissä vaihdoissa lehtiä), kauniit puikot ja tosi söde peltiloota täynnä nuppiksia. Jostain käsittämättömästä syystä olen addiktoitunut kaikenlaisiin peltilaatikoihin, -purkkeihin ja purnukoihin. Ne vaan on niin söpöjä! Mukana oli myös näsäkkä huovutetuin kansin varustettu muistivihko. Kaiken kruunasi ihana lammaskortti. Kiitos Mazzam tästä kierroksesta!

Oma ystäväni oli kiva ja hoiti homman kotiin enemmän kuin hyvin, mutta muuten tämä kierros ei kyllä ollut niin kiva kuin aikaisemmat. Kaipasin erityisesti entistä listaa mukana olijoiden blogeista. Sitä ei tehty, vedoten salaisuuden säilymiseen loppuun asti. Mutta... Ennen oli niin kiva käydä eri blogeissa, tutustua uusiin neulebloggaajiin, nähdä maailmaa ja tapoja. Se puuttui tästä kierroksesta. Haluan ehdottomasti osallistua kansainvälisiin vaihtoihin jatkossakin, on se vaan niin mukavaa, mutta taidan toistaiseksi etsiä niitä esim. Ravelrystä.


Yesterday was a really long day visiting my grandmother. Let's just conclude that's she's going slowly but steadily downwards.

The best part of the day was my Secret Pal's last package! Beautiful Rowan Denim and Natural Dye Studio yarns, chocolate (that is no more ;), gorgeous long needles, a new and interesting mag (I'll have to remember to ask for mags in the next international swaps too) and a tiny but oh so lovely metallic box full of needles. My friend must be psychic! I never mentioned anything about this addiction of mine, but I really love metallic boxes, all sizes and shapes :) There was also a notebook with felted covers. Thank you Mazzam, for this lovely round!

Secret Palin paketti!!! Juuri tänään, kun sai olla töissä aamusta iltaan ja oli vähän väsy. Tosin positiivisella tavalla, oli hyväntuulisia oppilaita.

Paketista löytyi, kangaskassi, suklaata (näette harhoja, ei sitä ole vielä avattu), KnitPicksin puikkomitta (ihana tukeva), ihanan ylellistä alpakkalankaa (kauniin suklaanruskeaa), sinistä paikallista lankaa (joka on värjätty morsingolla ja alareunassa esite paikasta mistä Pal oli tämän ostanut) ja vielä Jitterbugia (ihan eka Jitterbugini! Olen kyllä hiplannut ennenkin, mutta ei vaan ole tullut hommattua). Kiva paketti, ihanasti värikoodattu, kiitos!!

My Secret Pal's second package arrived today. It included a bag (I do need more bags about this size, somehow all the old ones are in use), chocolate (no, you're seeing things, it hasn't been opened yet...), KnitPicks needle measurer (or whatever that is in English - I like the sturdy feel of that one), lovely silky alpaca (beautiful chocolate brown), blue local yarn (and a leaflet telling about the place where she'd got this yarn and about the dyeing method), and Jitterbut (my first ever!). I love the way everything's colourcoded, thank you!!

Aulassa on penkkejä, sellaisia puistonpenkkityylisiä. Yksi nuori herra meinasi hermostua, kun jäi hienoista metalliketjuistaan (joiden housuissa roikkumista tarkoitusta en tosiaankaan tiedä) kiinni penkin väliin... Aina kun se sai jonkin kohdan kiskottua pois välistä, toinen ketju jäi kiinni... Ei sais, mutta nauratti...

Voi p! Taas miä unohdin sen Ratulan... Ravelry ja blogit vie kaiken ajan...

Ihanuuksia - Lovely things

Eilen ja tänään on ollut oikein mukavia postipäivä, mikä on tuntunut erityisen kivalta, koska lukuvuoden aloittaminen on aiheuttaminen iltaisin koomaamista sohvalla. En ole edes tehnyt käsitöitä kotona (kokouksessa kyllä neuloin) ja jotenkin olen onnistunut venauttamaan oikean etusormeni. Ei kestä painamista, vetämistä tms.

Beginning the year (yeah, I feel like the year really begins when school begins) is hard work. In the evenings I really haven't knit anything, I've just been lying on the sofa comatose...

Tänään tuli IK, ja se ei kyllä ikinä petä. Oli palmikkoa, pitsiä ja kirjoneuletta; ohuella, paksulla ja keskivertolangalla; kaiken väristä ja tosi mielenkiintoisia. Tästä lehdestä tulee varmasti tehtyä jotain. Ja hei! Lehti tuli ihan ajoissa, eli soutuvenhe Atlantin yli oli ehkä saanut huippusoutajat tai peräti perämoottorin ;)

Luckily today the mailman brought me IK - it never fails to cheer me up and there's always something really alluring. There were cables, lace and colours; thin, thicker and thick yarn: all kinds of colours and really interestin. And the best part! The magazine was on time! Either the rowing over the Atlantic has got speedier or they've bought a motorboat ;)

Eilen tuli Secret Pal 14 ensimmäinen paketti!Englannista (minulle rakas maa ja kieli) ja aivan ihana paketti!

And yesterday I received my first Secret Pal 14 package from England (a country and language which are dear to me). What a lovely package it was!


Kuvassa näkyy: Spostikeskustelun perusteella ystäväni laittoi mallikappaleet kahdesta lehdestä - The Knitter, josta on ollut paljon puhetta Ravelryn Suomalaisten neulojien ryhmässä ja oman suosikkinsa Yarn Forward, josta en ole koskaan kuullutkaan. Ensi lukemisen perusteella jälkimmäinen on enemmän minun makuuni. Ihania pitkiä artikkeleita (mm. Bohus Knitting) ja mm. ohje nimeltä Helsinki!

We had exchanged emails and I had asked about British knitting magazines. So my friend really kindly sent me an issue of The Knitter - there has been a lot of talk (mainly positive) about this magazine in the Finnish knitters' group on Ravelry. She also sent an issue of her favourite magazine Yarn Forward. I had never heard of this one before, but I do like this one better. Nice long articles about techniques.

Vasemmalla ihanaa tiukkakierteistä Mirasol Perun lankaa nimeltä Hacho. Pinssejä neulomisesta (mm. pudonnut silmukka) - rakastan! Lammasmuistilappuja ja lammaskortti ja villapesua. Ehdottomasti mielenkiintoisin esine on tuo puinen. Siihen kuuluu myös terävä silmäneula ja ohjeet. Mikä on tuon nimi suomeksi? Nähtävästi (ohjeista päätellen) sillä tehdään jonkinlaista nauhaa/nyöriä - englanniksi se on "lucet" tai "basic lucet cordmaker" (linkissä ihan alimmaisena). Pakko testata! Ja ihana paketti!

On the left lovely tight yarn called Hacho by Mirasol Peru. Pins about knitting (I love these!), sheep sticky-notes, wool wash (I've never had wool wash before). The most interesting item is the wooden "peg". I've no idea what it is called in Finnish, but in English (I think) it is "lucet" or "basic lucet cordmaker" (the picture at the bottom). This is for making cord (you can add beads too) and I really have to find time to try it out! Thank you for this lovely and interesting package!

My own spoilee has received her first package as well (last week), she just hasn't blogged it yet.

Dear Secret Pal! If we get the news about our pals, my questionnaire is below this post. This one is nothing but complaints about the cold (unusually cold and unusual for me to complain about the cold) and basic mittens knitted from the left over yarn (and some Lett Lopi because I run out of left overs).

Minä en normaalisti kylmästä valita, kuumasta kyllä. Mutta nyt on kyllä aikas kylmä heinäkuuksi. Todisteita:
- mulla on villasukkien päällä villatöppöset sisällä.
- mulla on placed cable aran päällä sisällä.
- takkaan piti laittaa tuli kun sisälämpömittari näytti +15.
- kauppaan polkiessa mulla oli tuon villapuseron päällä vielä sadetakki (ei satanut, mutta varauduin) eikä tullut edes hiki!

Joten jatkoa Unnalle. Oikea jämälankaprojekti. Sean Sheep -lanka ei riittänyt joten toisen lapasen kärkikavennukset ja molempien peukalot saivat lämpimikseen Lett Lopia. Aivot eivät jaksaneet miettiä mitään ihmeellistä, siksi ihan peruslapaset kiilalla.


Lanka: Sean Sheep + Lett Lopi yhteensä 65 g
Puikot: 3,75 mm

Sovitellessa ihanan lämpimät, mutta kuitenkin jotain pikkukivaa tartteis... Kirjoa ei huvita, pitsit ja palmikot ovat liian myöhäistä tässä vaiheessa, joten nappeja. Ja löysinkin lootasta aarteita parin kesän takaa. Hattuun myös.


Indyä ei palele:"Uuuuuuuulooooooooo-os!". Piki nukkui viime yön erittäin tiiviisti peiton alla kainalossa - ensi yöksi pitänee laittaa ikkuna kiinni. No, herra sai tänään raakaa ja tuoretta possun sydäntä herkuksi. Indy nyrpisteli eikä mennyt lankaan. Ilkeä emäntä yrittää narrata Indyä ja laittoi possun päälle vähän raksuja. No, raksuthan saa sillein taitavasti kynnellä ulos kupista...

Secret Pal 14 is about to start. I'm anxiously waiting for the info about my pal, my spoilee. For my own spoiler, this is my questionnaire. I'll edit it if something pops into my mind later.

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
I love natural fibers, wool, alpaca and silk are my favourites. I absolutely don't like acryclics or any other synthetics. Equally I don't like glitter or fancy new effect yarns. For spinning, wool (like BFL or Shetland) is best, somehow merino (for spinnng) feels sort of plastic in my hands.

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in? I'll show you:


The best needles are there. Well, actually KnitPicks are in their original pouches. The not so good ones, are in a closet - nearly forgotten.

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?
I've been knitting all my life. In 1975 my mother had a new baby and accordingly her hands full. My granny had broken her leg and nothing to do. So she taught me to crochet and later to knit. So it's been about 34 years now. If I think strictly about knitting, following patterns, then I consider myself advanced. But, I'm not capable of designing cardis or sweaters or anything complex, so in a way intermediate.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Yes, Amazon.

5. What's your favorite scent?
I'm allergic to scents! My sinuses get blocked and I can't breath. Vanilla (not too strong) is my only perfume.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?
Oh yes. Chocolate (not dark and no raisins).

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?
I love to try anything! I knit, crochet, spin (I have both a wheel (Kromski Sonata) and a spindle (Bosworth)). I've tried Tunisian crochet (too slow, but lovely result) and naalbinding. I have a small loom and sometimes I even sew and do cross stitching and bobbin lace.

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
My music taste is a bit special (Rajaton, Maria Kalaniemi, Club for Five) Yes, my computer can play MP3s.

9. What's your favorite colour(s)? Any colours you just can't stand?
Green in all its shades (not neon), red (not pink!), burnt orange are my favourites.
I hate pink, beige, lilac, dirty yellow, yellow and blue together or yellow and lilac together.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
I'm on my own, I have two furry kiddies (=two cats).

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?
Everything goes except hats.

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
Socks! And scarves and mittens and gloves and cardigans and shawls.

13. What are you knitting right now?
I'm sort of between works... I always have a pair or two of socks going.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?
Definitely!!!

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
Circulars, wood or bamboo. (I adore KnitPro's wooden dpns (15 cm) and circulars.)

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?
Yes, both.

17. How old is your oldest UFO?
I just frogged quite a lot of work that'll never be finished. But there should be a shawl somewhere from last autumn.

18. What is your favorite holiday? What winter holiday do you observe?
I'm not particularly a holiday person. Midsummer is nice with all the light and green nature. Christmas is nice too, because of the days off.

19. Is there anything that you collect?
Yarn ;) Knitting books.

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?
Just now I can't think of any. I susbcribeto IK, Designer Knitting (Vogue Knitting's international version), Spin Off and a couple of Finnish magazines. I'm thinking about Piecework... I'll let you know if something comes to my mind.

21. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn?
Probably there are, but I just haven't heard about them yet.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?
Yes. A small foot - the length of the foot should be 23 cm.

23. When is your birthday?
12th January
